Bags Of Cement In Concrete
Calculation of cement of bags in concrete is a routine task for civil engineers and technicians. Here is the method to calculate bags of cement, fine aggregates and coarse aggregates for all grades of concrete.
Say we have a concrete slab of 15’x15’x6″ thick made of 1:2:4 (M15) concrete.
Volume of the slab = 15x15x0.5 = 112.5 cft.
Using dry mix method:
Nominal Mix = 1:2:4
Wastage of cement is considered 2% during handling.
Concrete is prepared as wet mix which dries and shrinks in volume. This dried concrete in volume is considered as 67% of the wet concrete volume. Therefore, we need to produce a concrete which when shrinks is 112.5 cft.
112.5x/0.67 = 167.9 cft
Adding 2% wastage
1.02×167.9 = 171.258 say 171.25 cft.
Total proportions = 1+2+4 = 7
Amount of Cement = 1/7 x 171.25 = 24.46 cft
1 bag of cement = 50kg and has a volume of 1.23 cft
So Bags of cement = 24.46/1.23 = 19.88 = 20 bags
Volume of fine aggregates = 2/7 x 171.25 = 48.93 cft
Volume of coarse aggregates = 4/7 x 171.25 = 97.86 cft
